A Beautiful Moment in Time

  1. Great! Responsibility collapses into our gigantic vanity. Even after our self-propelled demise we continue to use the passive voice.

  2. I think that this is a perfect example of how we view our society! What would happen if we focused on the individuals and the environment instead of the investors?

  3. Humanity has begun to overpower the Earth. Our planet will eventually be uninhabitable if this trend continues. This trend will continue as long as powerful humans exist, so,Earth will be overpowered as long as humans have power. It is clear then, that the only way to stop the destruction of our planet is to remove humankind from power.

  4. This is a nice send-up of the limits of shallow ecology, conceived as reductively supporting nature-as-resource. On the other hand, as Jon suggested in his response to Chris, we don't have to agree with Naess's spiritual unity argument to be effective allies. The question remains open whether we can succeed in saving the planet without rejecting capitalist (shareholder) values.

  5. I'm not sure if this relates to what everyone else has been commenting, but what do you think will happen first, us destroying the Earth or, all of us dying?

  6. In response to Ryan, I think the demise of human beings and the planet would be simultaneous. Our success creates the demise of the planet, of which we, ourselves, need to continue surviving. Therefore it's a continuous circle of destruction until we all die. Rather depressing, but it puts everything into perspective, I suppose.
